After finishing my studies in Fine Arts 1991 in the class of Prof. Erich Reusch at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, I worked mainly in the fields of site specific sculptures and installations. Since 1993 I developed and worked with video installations. For the exhibition “Korridor”, Städtische Galerie Nordhorn, I made my first video work titled “Hinauf-hinab-kopfüber”: On two large walls I showed a projection of my body rolling upside down on the floor of the gallery. The actions were synchronously edited and showed this image as a continuing flow.
In the same year I came in contact with the artists museum Lodz and attended in the “4. Construction in Process – My home is your home”. Participations and residences followed for example in Israel and Australia, Poland and Great Britain. During my studies I started to do collaboration works and projects. Together with Thomas Kaiser and Samuel Schütz in 1995 we founded the “Office 64 – A.I.P.” (Association for intercultural projects). In the same year we did our first project under this label. It was called “Advertisement” and took place in public spaces of Calcutta. Already the first video installations included performing acts of little private actions which are containing themes of intimacy and privacy – the ways of seeing oneself. During a project in Mount Abu in 1997 I made my first video performance “Story about groceries”.
Through art we have the possibilities to create and develop new realities. Art gives us the perception of reality and allows us to get into any relation with what we call reality. Without art we are lost in something what we call “lifetime”.
